It's been two years
since my first journey to the New World but I still remember it as if it was
just some weeks ago. It was Michael Jordan's potentially final season in the NBA
and that proved to be reason enough for me to make the hop over the Atlantic and
watch him play. An in early March of 1998 the time had come! I boarded my plane
from Duesseldorf to Newark/NJ and could hardly wait for the flight to end. On my
arrival in New York, Manhattan that is, the thing I was most surprised to find
out was how tall those skyscrapers here really are. Well, when you see them on
TV you say: "Wow, that's large!", when you come here, you say:
"Wow, they're really large!", but after awhile you tend to say:
"With all those tall buildings around, you just don't realize how tall they
really are. It takes away part of their size!" But generally you can say
that everything is bigger and bolder here than in every other city or country
all over the world. ...to be continued! For
